Skyla appears in {{game|Black and White|s}} as the [[Gym Leader]] of Mistralton City's Gym. This Gym is the sixth to be challenged by the player. Trainers who defeat Skyla will receive the Jet Badge, along with {{TM|62|Acrobatics}}. She has a passion for flying and owns an entire airport. Her grandfather is said to be a legendary pilot.

She first appears in Mistralton as the player arrives in the town. There she is speaking with [[Cedric Juniper]] about using her plane to fly to a faraway region. Before battling the player, she says that she saw an injured Pokémon atop [[Celestial Tower]] to the north and that she must help it. After the player talks to her and rings the bell at the top of the tower, she heads back to the Gym. She also reappears at [[N's Castle]] where she and the other [[Unova]] Gym Leaders hold off the [[Seven Sages]]. In the {{DL|seasons|summer}}, she visits [[Cynthia]] at [[Undella Town]], as do the other female Gym Leaders and Elite Four members.

Skyla is good friends with fellow Gym Leader [[Elesa]]. Between the events of Black and White and {{2v2|Black|White|2}}, Elesa confided in her about changing her image.

In Black 2 and White 2, Skyla returns as a Gym Leader. The TM Skyla gives out remains the same. She aids the player and [[Professor Juniper]] in reaching [[Lentimas Town]] in order to access [[Opelucid City]], due to the collapse of [[Twist Mountain]]. She flys her plane with them on board.

After you get the [[Permit]] from [[Professor Juniper]], Skyla will fly you to the [[Nature Preserve]] whenever you like. She is also seen in the [[Pokémon World Tournament]].

Skyla made her anime debut in ''[[BW067|Cilan Takes Flight!]]''. Those who wished to challenge her were required to make reservations first. She would pick up to fifteen challengers at a time and have them participate in what she called an "Air Battle"—a battle that she played out in her head—instead of traditional battles. Skyla matched up her Pokémon against her opponent's and made decisions through their strengths and weaknesses. If she felt her team would have a disadvantage, she would give the challenger the {{Badge|Jet}}. However, if she felt her team had the advantage, she would deny the challenger a Badge.

This method infuriated both {{Ash}} and {{an|Cilan}}. Not only did they disapprove of Skyla's methods but her own grandfather and former {{ci|Mistralton}} [[Gym Leader]], {{an|Miles}}, disapproved as well. He then explained that she used to do traditional battles and was quite good. Because of that, she received floods of challengers each day and that ultimately prevented her from having any time to pilot her plane. As a Gym Leader himself, it was simply unacceptable to Cilan and he wished to challenge her.

Skyla decided to battle Cilan first seeing that it would be the first time she battled another Gym Leader. She performed her "Air Battle" first and concluded that she was the winner. However, Cilan persuaded her to battle the traditional way. Like she had predicted in her head, she came out victorious in the real battle and thus did not feel she needed to change her methods at all.

In order to help make her realize the true meaning of being a Gym Leader, Ash battled Skyla himself in ''[[BW068|An Amazing Aerial Battle!]]''. He eventually won with his Tranquill evolving into {{AP|Unfezant}}, earning himself the {{Badge|Jet}}. She then learned not to take Gym battles so lightly and promised to be a proper Gym Leader from then on.

Skyla appeared in flashbacks in ''[[BW103|Curtain Up, Unova League!]]'' and ''[[BW140|Survival of the Striaton Gym!]]''. She also made a cameo appearance in the credits of ''[[M16|Genesect and the Legend Awakened]]''.

Skyla makes her first appearance delivering a package full of Prop Cases for the [[Pokémon Musical]] after the [[Driftveil Drawbridge]] has been raised, preventing anything going through it. She is shown to be flying a cargo plane and writes a message in the air to tell the people of Nimbasa to enjoy the Musical.

Later, when {{adv|Black}} goes to Mistralton City with [[Clay]] to meet with the other Gym Leaders, Skyla leaves to help an injured {{p|Pidove}} on the [[Celestial Tower]] and drags Black there with her. After healing the Pidove, Skyla has Black ring the Celestial Tower's bell and "takes him" to the Gym to have a battle. There, she reveals that if Black loses, he will be forced to go back to Nuvema Town, as she could tell that he was stressed out when he rung the bell.

Although worried that Team Plasma's actions could get the League closed down, Black manages to get his head together and beat Skyla. Although Black won the battle, Skyla goes off to pilot a plane with the other Gym Leaders inside. Black is shot back up to the Celestial Tower and Skyla has him ring the bell once again. Pleased with the bell's sound, Skyla has her Swanna give Black the Jet Badge and take him with the Gym Leaders to Nacrene City.

Upon arriving, Skyla and the other Gym Leaders face the [[Shadow Triad]] in battle to protect the Dark Stone from being stolen. Despite their teamwork, Skyla and the other Gym Leaders are defeated by the Shadow Triad's trump card, the [[Forces of Nature]]. Skyla, along with the other Gym Leaders, is kidnapped and taken to a dark room, where she had her memories of the kidnapping erased. When [[Caitlin]] used her psychic abilities to communicate with the Gym Leaders, she had them relay a message to Black during his battle with Drayden.

During Team Plasma's attack on the Pokémon League, Skyla is hoisted up on a crucifix along with the other Gym Leaders so that they and the League can be mocked. Soon after, she is freed by {{adv|Shōko}}'s {{p|Patrat}} and assists in the battle against Team Plasma.

Skyla appears in {{game|Black and White|s}} as the [[Gym Leader]] of Mistralton City's Gym. This Gym is the sixth to be challenged by the player. Trainers who defeat Skyla will receive the Jet Badge, along with {{TM|62|Acrobatics}}. She has a passion for flying and owns an entire airport. Her grandfather is said to be a legendary pilot.

She first appears in Mistralton as the player arrives in the town. There she is speaking with [[Cedric Juniper]] about using her plane to fly to a faraway region. Before battling the player, she says that she saw an injured Pokémon atop [[Celestial Tower]] to the north and that she must help it. After the player talks to her and rings the bell at the top of the tower, she heads back to the Gym. She also reappears at [[N's Castle]] where she and the other [[Unova]] Gym Leaders hold off the [[Seven Sages]]. In the {{DL|seasons|summer}}, she visits [[Cynthia]] at [[Undella Town]], as do the other female Gym Leaders and Elite Four members.

Skyla made her anime debut in ''[[BW067|Cilan Takes Flight!]]''. Those who wished to challenge her were required to make reservations first. She would pick up to fifteen challengers at a time and have them participate in what she called an "Air Battle"—a battle that she played out in her head—instead of traditional battles. Skyla matched up her Pokémon against her opponent's and made decisions through their strengths and weaknesses. If she felt her team would have a disadvantage, she would give the challenger the {{Badge|Jet}}. However, if she felt her team had the advantage, she would deny the challenger a Badge.

This method infuriated both {{Ash}} and {{an|Cilan}}. Not only did they disapprove of Skyla's methods but her own grandfather and former {{ci|Mistralton}} [[Gym Leader]], {{an|Miles}}, disapproved as well. He then explained that she used to do traditional battles and was quite good. Because of that, she received floods of challengers each day and that ultimately prevented her from having any time to pilot her plane. As a Gym Leader himself, it was simply unacceptable to Cilan and he wished to challenge her.

Skyla decided to battle Cilan first seeing that it would be the first time she battled another Gym Leader. She performed her "Air Battle" first and concluded that she was the winner. However, Cilan persuaded her to battle the traditional way. Like she had predicted in her head, she came out victorious in the real battle and thus did not feel she needed to change her methods at all.

In order to help make her realize the true meaning of being a Gym Leader, Ash battled Skyla himself in ''[[BW068|An Amazing Aerial Battle!]]''. He eventually won with his Tranquill evolving into {{AP|Unfezant}}, earning himself the {{Badge|Jet}}. She then learned not to take Gym battles so lightly and promised to be a proper Gym Leader from then on.

Skyla appeared in flashbacks in ''[[BW103|Curtain Up, Unova League!]]'' and ''[[BW140|Survival of the Striaton Gym!]]''. She also made a cameo appearance in the credits of ''[[M16|Genesect and the Legend Awakened]]''.

There, she reveals that if Black loses, he will be forced to go back to Nuvema Town, as she could tell that he was stressed out when he rung the bell.

Although worried that Team Plasma's actions could get the League closed down, Black manages to get his head together and beat Skyla. Although Black won the battle, Skyla goes off to pilot a plane with the other Gym Leaders inside. Black is shot back up to the Celestial Tower and Skyla has him ring the bell once again. Pleased with the bell's sound, Skyla has her Swanna give Black the Jet Badge and take him with the Gym Leaders to Nacrene City.

Upon arriving, Skyla and the other Gym Leaders face the [[Shadow Triad]] in battle to protect the Dark Stone from being stolen. Despite their teamwork, Skyla and the other Gym Leaders are defeated by the Shadow Triad's trump card, the [[Forces of Nature]]. Skyla, along with the other Gym Leaders, is kidnapped and taken to a dark room, where she had her memories of the kidnapping erased. When [[Caitlin]] used her psychic abilities to communicate with the Gym Leaders, she had them relay a message to Black during his battle with Drayden.

During Team Plasma's attack on the Pokémon League, Skyla is hoisted up on a crucifix along with the other Gym Leaders so that they and the League can be mocked. Soon after, she is freed by {{adv|Shōko}}'s {{p|Patrat}} and assists in the battle against Team Plasma.

He left the [[Sinnoh]] region four years prior to the events of [[Generation IV]] to study the Pokémon of [[Kanto]] with [[Professor Oak]], and has recently returned at the start of {{game|Diamond and Pearl|s}} after reaching the conclusion that Sinnoh holds far greater secrets. He has a stern personality that makes him seem intimidating and mean, but he is actually very kind and patient. Rowan says he still feels a thrill whenever he travels anywhere with his Pokémon. He apparently has a sweet tooth, as the refrigerator in his laboratory is full of nothing but sweets and candy.

Rowan's particular field of study is Pokémon [[evolution]], having discovered that 90% of all Pokémon are [[List of Pokémon by evolution family|connected in some way]] to others through evolution. In {{game|Diamond and Pearl|s}}, Professor Rowan is seen for the first time observing [[Lake Verity]] with his assistant. After being interrupted by the player and {{ga|Barry|his/her friend}}, he quickly walks off leaving his briefcase, which holds three [[Poké Ball]]s containing {{p|Turtwig}}, {{p|Chimchar}}, and {{p|Piplup}}, behind. The player and his/her friend try to return it to him, but are attacked by wild Pokémon in the process, and are forced to use two of the Pokémon in the briefcase for defense. After returning the Pokémon to Rowan in his lab, Rowan hears about the survival tactics that they used, and tells them to keep the Pokémon, as well as giving them each a [[Pokédex]] to record data about every single Pokémon. Soon after, Rowan and his assistant travel to [[Jubilife City]] to drop off some notes, where they are attacked by [[Team Galactic]], just as the player returns from [[Oreburgh City]] with his/her first [[Badge]].

After becoming suspicious of Team Galactic's activities, he gathers his assistant, the player and his/her friend in the [[Canalave Library]] late in the game, and tells them about the legends of [[Sinnoh]]. Before they are able to finish their discussion, however, an earthquake shakes the region, and the four manage to escape the building before an aftershock. Another one appeared in [[SS024]] where a new Trainer named [[Shinko]] was picking a Starter Pokémon. A similar situationas before occurred, with the Piplup and Chimchar starting a fight causing a window to break and causing Chimchar and Piplup to escape.

Later, Shinko and {{an|Dawn}} found Piplup and Chimchar in an {{p|Ariados}}'s web. Dawn got them free, but multiple Ariados arrived. Dawn was able to fend them off, but the leader, a {{Shiny}} Ariados, used {{m|Psychic}} to disable the group's movements. Suddenly, [[Dawn's Quilava|Dawn's Cyndaquil]] [[Evolution|evolved]] into a Quilava and saved the group. Piplup and Chimchar were then brought back to the lab.

Professor Rowan first appears after he and {{adv|Platinum}}'s father, Professor Berlitz, are accidentally knocked onto the ground after {{adv|Diamond}} and {{adv|Pearl}} crash into them. After yelling at the two boys, Rowan talks to Sir Berlitz about sending his daughter out into the world but notes that since she promised to record the Sinnoh Pokémon, he quickly accepted this and gave a Pokédex, Pokétch, and some Poké Balls for her journey. They quickly meet up with [[Paka and Uji]], two bodyguards hired to protect Platinum on her journey and give them the letter detailing their mission inside of it. Unbeknownst to them, when Rowan and Professor Berlitz were knocked on the ground by Diamond and Pearl, they had accidentally switched letters, causing Diamond and Pearl to take the bodyguard mission while mistaking it for a tour and Paka and Uji getting Diamond and Pearl's prize for winning a comedy competition, a bike ride.

Later, at Professor Rowan's lab, he and Professor Berlitz are discussing the topics on their upcoming presentation in Canalave City. After taking a break for sweets, they set off to Canalave for the conference. Later, they reach Canalave and note the discoveries they can make while Gym Leader [[Byron]] talks to his son [[Roark]] on the Pokégear as he passes by them. Sometime later, they go to do their presentation when a woman gives Rowan a newspaper from the [[Pokémon News Press]]. Rowan just decides to throw it away, failing to notice that Platinum is on the cover and is traveling with Diamond and Pearl instead of her bodyguards.

Later, after Platinum defeats [[Fantina]] in their Gym Battle, she sees on the television that both Professor Rowan and her father have gone missing. Platinum, Diamond, and Pearl go to Canalave to find the missing scientists; they eventually find them at the [[Canalave Gym]] being held there by the Gym Leader, Byron. After clearing up some misunderstandings, Byron reveals that it was a {{tc|Galactic Grunt}} wearing a [[Advanced level Grunt|cloak]] that used a special device to trap the two scientists in a cage.

Later that night, the Advanced level Grunt returns to Canalave to set Professor Rowan and Professor Berlitz from their prison. Although freed from the cage, they are weak from staying inside of it for several days and need crutches just to be able to stand up. After Professor Berlitz allows Platinum to go and defeat [[Team Galactic]] and have Diamond and Pearl as her bodyguards, Professor Rowan upgrades their Pokédex to the National mode and gives them the ability to see gender differences.

During the final battle on the [[Spear Pillar]], Rowan and Professor Berlitz join Byron and the [[Underground Man]] in the final battle against Team Galactic. They use a machine to monitor the distortion of space-time as {{p|Dialga}} and {{p|Palkia}} battle each other.

* Rowan's Japanese name is actually the word for the {{wp|rowan}} tree. After much speculation that it would be a direct translation, it was revealed that his name would be Rowan in the English translation, continuing the long-standing pattern of professors named for trees.
* Rowan's studies declaring that 90% of all Pokémon are related through [[evolution]] are only true as of [[Generation IV]], and even then only if [[legendary Pokémon]] are not included.
* Rowan is the only Professor without a known relative.

Roxie appears in {{game|Black and White|s|Pokémon Black 2 and White 2|2}} as a Gym Leader. She is a musician who plays the {{wp|bass guitar}}. Her Gym is a music club. Trainers who defeat Roxie will receive the Toxic Badge, along with {{TM|09|Venoshock}}.

Before the Gym battle, Roxie is seen in Virbank City outside of the Pokémon Center, arguing with her father about him becoming a movie star. He defends his wishes by commenting that Roxie balances her duties as the Virbank Gym Leader, and as a member of her rock band. He leaves, and Roxie gets angry and heads for the Gym, which the player can directly challenge.

After the Gym battle, Roxie can be seen near the port with Hugh and several of the {{tc|Team Plasma Grunt}}s. After the battle that follows, she gives the player the HM Cut and then heads back to the Gym.

Roxie later makes a brief appearance after the player competes in the PWT for the first time, expressing an interest in competing in it (causing Clay to remark that word of the competition is spreading). Roxie does indeed compete in it later, along with most other Gym Leaders.

Roxie appeared in ''[[BW083|Rocking the Virbank Gym! Part 1]]'' and ''[[BW084|Rocking the Virbank Gym! Part 2]]''. She is a powerful Gym Leader, defeating everyone who dared to challenge her with only three Pokémon. When Ash arrived at her Gym, she was thrilled to see his {{AP|Pikachu}}, as she too had a Pokémon originating from [[Kanto]], {{p|Koffing}}, and happily accepted his challenge.

Roxie proved herself to be a very capable Gym Leader, defeating five of Ash's six Pokémon despite being at a disadvantage in terms of her [[party]]. She would occasionally perform a riff on her bass during the battle, and the crowd would chant her name. When she was defeated she happily congratulated Ash as the crowd cheered for his victory, and she presented him with his eighth and final Unova Badge, the Toxic Badge.
