==Characteristics==
The Ghost type is the smallest [[type]] in the game, with few additions in each new Pokémon game. They are also unique in the fact that they have a type-specific attack: {{m|Curse}}, which, other than being the only {{type2|???}} move before the type was removed in [[Generation V]], works differently for Ghost-type Pokémon than it does for other Pokémon.

===Offense===
Ghost-type Pokémon are used mainly to inflict status effects, like {{status|confusion}} or {{status|paralysis}}. Most Ghost-type moves cause some sort of effect or a [[status ailment]]. They are a good type to use in Pokémon battling, because of their possession of all-around good attacks, such as {{m|Shadow Claw}} and {{m|Shadow Ball}}. Also, there is no Pokémon that resists a combination of {{t|Fighting}}- and Ghost-type moves, as the only combination capable of this ([[Normal]]/Ghost) has never materialized.

===Defense===
The weaknesses of the Ghost type are covered by the resistances of the {{t|Dark}}-type, and vice-versa, so their combination, seen in the Pokémon {{p|Sableye}} and {{p|Spiritomb}}, has no weaknesses. However, this does not make for a perfect Pokémon. There is always the possibility for the immunities of the Ghost- and Dark-types to be removed via certain moves, such as {{m|Foresight}}, {{m|Odor Sleuth}}, and {{m|Miracle Eye}}, creating a weakness, or neutrality in the case of the latter. The lack of weaknesses is also offset by the lack of any resistances beyond resisting Poison (an uncommon type offensively) and the three immunities to Psychic, Fighting and Normal (which can be removed, as mentioned above).

* There were no pure Ghost-type species in [[Generation I]].
* In Generation I, Ghost-type moves had no effect on Psychic-type Pokémon, though an abundance of evidence suggests that this may have been an error. Multiple sources mention that Ghost-type moves are super effective on Psychic-type Pokémon: official strategy guides published by Nintendo, two episodes of the {{pkmn|anime}} ([[EP023|''The Tower of Terror'']] and [[EP024|''Haunter versus Kadabra'']]), and even the games themselves, where a Trainer in the [[Saffron Gym]] mentions that Psychic-type Pokémon "only fear {{t|Bug}}s and Ghosts" (though the reference to Ghost-type Pokémon was removed in Yellow). This was changed in [[Generation II]] to make Ghost moves actually be super effective against Psychic Pokémon.
* There are no Ghost-type moves that have an {{stat|accuracy}} lower than 100%.
* While the Ghost-type has an immunity to Normal-type moves, several damaging moves that display as Normal can affect them, including {{m|Hidden Power}} and {{m|Struggle}}.

Dawn lives in [[Twinleaf Town]] with her mother and dreams big, so she and her {{ga|Barry|best friend}} (and soon-to-be [[rival]]) have high hopes of catching the {{p|Mesprit|legendary Pokémon}} of their nearby [[Lake Verity|Lake]]. After meeting Professor Rowan and his assistant {{ga|Lucas}}, they are attacked by wild Pokémon and as a last resort, use the Pokémon in the briefcase the Professor has forgotten. After bringing the Pokémon back Dawn receives the Pokémon she used as well as a Pokédex and goes on to gather the eight badges of Sinnoh, defeat Team Galactic and conquer the Pokémon League all before taking on the Battle Frontier.

She has to stop [[Team Galactic]] from trying to use either {{p|Dialga}}{{sup|D}} or {{p|Palkia}}{{sup|P}} to destroy the entire universe in order to create a new one.

If the player chooses Lucas, she will become {{Prof|Rowan}}'s assistant for the game. Dawn lives in [[Sandgem Town]] with her little sister, grandfather, and father—who works as an assistant of Professor Rowan. She is already the Professor's assistant at the beginning of the game. She also demonstrates to the player how to capture Pokémon by capturing a wild {{p|Bidoof}}.

In the events of Platinum, Dawn and Barry instead go to visit Professor Rowan at his lab rather than go to the lake in search of a Pokémon of the same rarity as a [[red Gyarados]]. They receive their Pokémon on {{rt|201|Sinnoh}} when Professor Rowan realizes that they are so dedicated to Pokémon as to attempt to travel from Twinleaf Town to [[Sandgem Town]] through the [[tall grass]] without any Pokémon of their own.

In addition, Team Galactic attempts to use both {{p|Dialga}} and {{p|Palkia}}, but they are stopped by {{p|Giratina}}. Finally, Dawn has to go to the [[Distortion World]] and face Giratina, in order to stop both worlds from destroying each other.

She will again be {{Prof|Rowan}}'s assistant if the player chooses Lucas.

[[Pokémon Black and White Versions|Years later]], her exploits are referenced by [[Cynthia]], who remembers a young Trainer who defeated her.

(I have a topic about this on the BMGf, but I think I should also adress it here.) I think the in-game data should be taken at more value than even Nintnedo's word, or guides (which they apparently have used "Gary" for Blue.) That said, I also don't think we've ever deviated from using a name if the game dosen't randomize it when we enter a blank name in-game.

With Diamond being the 'primary' version, if you enter his name in blank, it comes up as "Pearl". If I'm not mistaken this is exactly how we get Blue's name in the original versions.

I'd still like to see some of Nintnedo's use of the name, regardless.

Well, after I beat him at the Battle Zone the first time I decided to go to the pokémon league so I could train my lv 75 Luxray to lv 100, 2 weeks later my Luxray reached 100 and so I decided to look for Cresselia and Giratina the only 2 non-event legendaries I didnt own and when I caught them I went back to the Battle Zone to challenge him and my lv 100 Luxray was the first one in my party and when the battle started all his pokémon were stronger than before and thats all I recall doing, but if anyone is interested in seeing the match I plan on posting the battle on youtube later this week, so if anyone wants to see it contact my user page and I'll direct you to my user page on youtube, I hope this helps. Also, the prerelease Japanese screenshots showed his name as "Jun". So, I think there's no reason to call him with a uncanonical, fanmade name "Pearl". It was the first choice in both Diamond and Platinum, and (even though the anime doesn't count for too much) it was also his anime name. However, I've been reading up on some threads, and people are claiming that Cynthia was referred to as a Pokémon Master in the Japanese version (or Pokémon League Champion of the world, to be exact), and that DP confirms that in order to be a Master, a trainer must beat the Elite 4 in a tournament, so I was wondering, is this really said, and if so, should the article be edited to mention this fact?

Yes she is. I believe that anyone who is, or has been the Pokemon League Champion, or even an Elite Four member is a Pokemon Master.

The Orange League as composed of Gym Leaders. No Elite Four, with Drake as the strongest player, but still more of a Gym Leader.

It was stated by Lucian that to become a champion, you must conquer a regional tournament, and we have seen how challenging that is in the anime. And on top of that, one must then defeat the Elite Four, and the ones who have battled have shown skills that put all but the greatest trainers to shame. And the reigning champion is even stronger than Elite Four members, as Flint only managed to defeat two of Cynthia's Pokemon.

I don't remember anyone saying Elite Four level. Stronger than Gym Leaders, yes the Frontier Brains were. I'd only put Brandon at Elite Four level, possibly Champion, and that is probably only because of his apparent skill in capturing the Regis. No one ever said the Frontier Brains were Pokemon Masters, just very powerful trainers, at least to my memory. And not only that, Ash's skill varies at times. Like him losing to Trip. Even if that is true, remember how that battle went? Agatha won. Remember the battle with Flint? He destroyed Ash without breaking a sweat. If Flint is anything to go by, the Frontier Brains are yes, better than Gym Leaders, but lower than Elite Four.

Not to mention, Ash beat Brandon by the skin of his teeth. Brandon didn't use his best team, Ash had to use his most experienced Pokemon, Brandon used the Regi he had the least time to practice with, and not only that, Ash lost to him twice. If anything, Ash beating the Battle Frontier was just a cop out.

Yes, this may be speculation, but that is all that we can do to answer the question of what this is. I came up with a definition which fits rather nicely, but still offers lots of room for freedom:

"Someone who accomplishes a great task regarding Pokémon."

Most well-known people (Professors, Champions, Player, etc.) can fall under this category. For example, Oak created the Pokédex, and is the most well-known professor, hence his title of Master. Champions are the best members of the League in their respective areas, which can be hard to do. The Player defeats both a villinous team and the Champion, so they are also a Master. However, you could also consider the Rocket Trio masters as well, as they most likely far surpassed the previous record for number of failed attempts at stealing Pokémon.

In DP191 and BW031, more mentioning of a champion league was said. In DP191, Ash says that once he wins the Champion League, he'll become a Champion Master, another word for Pokemon Master. The evidence that is shown is now theorized that after a Trainer wins a regional league, they are qualified to be part of the Champion League, and if they win, they officially become Pokémon Masters. Whoever wrote this must not be aware of the Special Split that happened nearly 10 years ago. Back in R/B/Y when there was only one Special stat, all Fighting types had very low Special, but the thing is that this is based on their SPECIAL ATTACK stat and NOT their future Special Defense. When G/S were released the Kanto Fighting types had either slightly higher Special Defense than there Defense stat (Machamp's is 85 compared to it's 80 Defense, and ALL Hitmons have 110 Special Defense where none of their Defense stats are higher than Hitmontop's Base 95 Defense). Even lesser Fighting types like Primeape and Poliwrath had either equal or greater Special Defense (Poliwrath is the only fully evolved Kanto Fighting type to have a lower Special Defense, but the difference between it's Defense is very small and both are Base 90 or higher). The other IMPORTANT thing to notice is that BOTH statistical averages for Fighting type stats have Special Defense higher than their Defense stats (And if I haven't said so already, the REAL lowest stat is Special ATTACK, not Special Defense). So if this could be modified and replaced with mentions of low Special Attack instead of low Special Defense this would be greatly appreciated.
