Characteristics
Defensively, the Ice type is one of the worst types, only bearing a resistance to one type (itself) and being weak to four types, although two of those types are not very common. This disadvantage in defensive weaknesses is made up somewhat, since the Ice type often finds itself paired up with the Water type, which effectively neutralises two of its four weaknesses and gives it an offensive advantage against Rock-types.

Offensively, the Ice type is very strong, being one of only two types that is super-effective against Dragon types (indeed, it finds itself more useful for handling Dragon types than Dragon moves since most fully-evolved Dragons have a 4x weakness to Ice moves) and having relatively uncommon types it is not as effective against.

Name origin
It's English name is simply another way of transcribing 鳳凰 Hōō, which is the Japanese word for phoenix, specifically, the Chinese phoenix, or Fènghuáng.

Ho-Oh, like Moltres, is based on the legend of the phoenix; unlike Moltres, it is based on the Fènghuáng. Many cultures view the phoenix as a symbol of resurrection; this is seen in Ho-Oh, which was reborn rising from its own ashes and had a hand in resurrecting Suicune, Raikou and Entei.

In the games
In Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Pokémon Crystal, it flies to the roof of Tin Tower, causing the central pillar to shake, when the games' hero/heroine enters with a Rainbow Wing, one of its feathers. However, the means of obtaining the Rainbow Wing differs between the three versions.

In Pokémon FireRed, LeafGreen, and Pokémon Emerald, Ho-Oh is encountered in Navel Rock, a barren rock in the center of the Sevii Islands, along with Lugia. To reach Navel Rock via a Seagallop Ferry, one must have the Mysticticket, a promotional item.

Sacred Ash, an item that when used fully restores all party Pokémon's HP and status conditions, is considered closely related to Ho-Oh. In Gold, Silver, and Crystal, it is held by Ho-Oh. In FireRed, LeafGreen, and Emerald, it is found in the spot underneath Ho-Oh after defeating
or catching it.

Ho-Oh comes with the Ability Pressure, which causes the foe to use two PP instead of one each time it uses a move.

Ho-Oh's signature move is.

Ho-Oh does not evolve, and no Pokémon evolves into it.

In the anime
According to the anime, Ho-Oh lived in Tin Tower in ancient times. But when war broke out, burning Tin Tower down, it created Raikou, Entei, and Suicune, and all four disappeared. Later, a new Tin Tower was erected, but Ho-Oh since then has never come back for sure. Ash however has currently witnessed Ho-Oh at least twice; indeed, it was the first Generation II Pokémon to appear in the anime. Also, a sacred flame burns in Dragon's Den which came from Ho-Oh in the same ancient war that burned Tin Tower; it still burns today, protected in a shrine. In the anime, Ho-Oh was last seen by Ash flying toward Hoenn.

It appears to draw inspiration from certain representations of aliens. Considering its viral nature and its ability to mutate, not to mention its location on a southern island, it may have been loosely based on the Missingno glitch.

Considering its humanoid appearance and ability to grant wishes, it's possible that it draws inspiration from the Arabic myths about genies, or djinn. In some myths, imprisoned genies would grant wishes to the person who released them.
Jirachi has the ability Serene Grace, which causes side effects of moves to happen more often.

Ho-Oh's signature move is Sacred Fire.

In both cases a human has attempted to capture them: Jirarudan attempted to capture the large Lugia for himself, inadvertently threatening the world's balance in the process; and Dr. Nanba, attempting to capture both the mother Lugia and Silver for Giovanni. Both were foiled by Ash and his friends.

Lugia comes with the Ability Pressure, which causes the foe to use two PP instead of one each time it uses a move.

Lugia's signature move is Aeroblast.

Lugia does not evolve, and no Pokémon evolves into it.

Name origin
May come from lutetium, a silverish element. Possibly also lugeo, meaning to lie dormant, alluding to the way Lugia lies at the bottom of the sea. The Lu- may come from luna, meaning moon.

Some within fanon speculate that he might be the most powerful Rocket scientist.Not taking in other issues, one can say that he has spent an impressive amount time working for the group.

Relationships with other members
He gives commands to Bashou and Buson and also works with Tyson. Tyson seems to hold at least his scientific mind in great regard. As the Bashou, Buson, and Tyson are of the same rank, Shiranui might work with agents of their rank often.
He is in charge of a sizeable crew of scientists, and they seem to work on a variety of things.
Eventually, his studies gained the attention of Giovanni, who said he would fund Fuji's project if Fuji also cloned the legendary Mew. This resulted in Mewtwo, who blew up the lab shortly after gaining sentience, killing everyone therein (including Fuji).
Certainly not as smart as her son, Giovanni. This can be based upon numerous facts, including hearing a recording proving the existence of Mew, a creature that could bring her Team great power and fortune. She responds with the quip "Can we make a CD out of it?" Her primary focus seems to be on making money. However, she is an effective enough Boss of the Rockets and does not show true ineptitude at her job.
Not known.
As Rocket Boss, she commands an army. She gives direction to Miyamoto personally, and speaks of her 'brat boy' Giovanni. Going strictly by the timeline presented by the CD drama, he would have had to be at least in his 20s at the time she said that, which proves her relationship with him to be at best extremely hostile.

Notes:
# All numbers are to be treated as unsigned unless otherwise specified.
# Numbers prefixed with "0x", "$" or suffixed with "h" are hexadecimal.
# Numbers prefixed with "0" are octal.
# Numbers with no specific prefix or suffix are decimal.

* Accuracy obviously determines move's accuracy. Divide this value by 256 to get the actual accuracy. The fact that it is divided by 256 explains why moves like Swift will sometimes fail while their value for accuracy is set to 0xFF (255). They have a 1/256 chance of failing. This value is set to 0 to reach 100% accuracy.
* Effect accuracy determines probability that the effect associated with a given move will happen. Divide this value by 100 to get the actual effect's accuracy. So that, for instance, a value of 100 gives you 100% chances for the effect to trigger. For yet-unknowned reasons, some moves have this value set to 0 which results in 100% accuracy as well.
* Affects whom determines who the move will hit on a 2 on 2 battle. It can be selected target, user, both foes, random foe, both foes and partner, field, opponent field (Spikes) and last opponent who moved. The following table indicates which value matches a certain target type.
0x00 || Selected target
0x01 || Last opponent who moved
0x02 || Unused (?)
0x04 || Random target
0x08 || Both foes
0x10 || User
0x20 || Both foes and partner
0x40 || Opponent field
0x80 || Unused (?)
Please note that it is theorically possible to combine those values. For example, you could have a move with this value set to 0x18. This would mean it would affect everyone except partner. But, no move seems to use such a combination in the games.
* Priority determines the moves speed, for example EXTREMESPEED is faster than any other move. This byte is signed, i.e. this value can be either positive or negative. If it is stricly less than 0x80 (128) then you got the actual value. If not, the actual value equals: -1 * (256 - Current Value). Thus, value 0xFE (254) must be treated as -2 instead.
* Contact determines whether there is physical contact during the attack or not, for determining effects of certain abilities such as Static and Rough Skin. This byte also determines whether this move is affected by items such as King's Rock or Brightpowder.
* Padding consists of a sequence of 3 bytes. Each one of those bytes should be set to 0x00.

Quest Island is the seventh island in the Sevii Islands archepelego. It is south of Floe Island and west of Fortune Island.

Quest Island is also known as "Seven Island". The island's motto is "Quest Island of Infinity".

Quest Island doesn't have as many inhabitants as the other Sevii Islands. It's mostly been left virtually untouched in its natural state. That makes it difficult to hike across.

In the port town, there's a house that opens up for battles when e-Reader cards are used.

North of the port is the Trainer Tower. The sign outside of it proclaims "Rise to the Challenge, Trainers!" Trainers from all over come to challenge others in the eight floors of the tower.

South of the port is a Move Tutor who will teach Swords Dance. South of that, over a bridge is the entrance to Seavault Canyon.

In the canyon is a small cave called the Tanoby Key. Solving the puzzle inside will unlock the ruins.

South of the canyon is a small house in which a man and his Chansey will heal Pokémon by making them do a dance.

South of that is the Tanoby Ruins, a series of islands containing strange chambers. The chambers are home to the peculiar Pokémon, Unown, who will appear if the Tanoby Key is unlocked.

The Battle Frontier is a whole new area introduced in Pokémon Emerald which features several areas where you can battle your Pokémon.

Battle Arena
Battling in the Battle Arena (Japanese: バトルアリーナ) pits two Pokémon against one another for three rounds. If both Pokémon last all three rounds, they are rated on how they battled, and the Pokémon with the higher score wins. The losing Pokémon leaves battle. If both Pokémon have the same score, they both lose. If either Pokémon is knocked out before three rounds are over, that Pokémon loses and there is no scoring for that battle.

Pokémon are scored on their mind, skill, and body.

After 27 and 55 consecutive wins, Arena Tycoon Greta appears to challenge. Defeating her awards the Guts Symbol.

Battle Dome
The Battle Dome (Japanese: バトルドーム) is a tournament which consists of 16 trainers.

After defeating 20 and 40 opponents, Dome Ace Tucker appears to battle. Defeating him earns the Tactics Symbol.

Battle Factory
The Battle Factory (Japanese: バトルファクトリー) is a place for researchers to examine trainers using random Pokémon in battle. Before entering a battle, the guide researcher will tell information about the opponent's team, and allow you to trade one of your Pokémon for one from the trainer previously defeated.

After 21 and 42 consecutive wins (respectively three and six times through the Battle Dome), Factory Head Noland appears to battle. Defeating him awards the Knowledge Symbol.

Battle Palace
Pokémon battle on their own within the Battle Palace (Japanese: バトルパレス). A Pokémon's style of attack depends on its nature. When a Pokémon's HP meter falls low, it may be in the Pokémon's nature to change its style of attack.

Palace Maven Spenser appears after 21 and 42 consecutive wins (three and six trips through the palace, respectively), and defeating him earns the Spirits Symbol.

Battle Pyramid
The Battle Pyramid (Japanese: バトルピラミッド) is a 7-layer pyramid. Each room is shrouded in darkness and only by defeating opponents will it light up. A trainer cannot take any items into the pyramid. Any items found within the pyramid may only be used while in the pyramid.

The kind of wild Pokémon encountered depends on many times one has travelled through the pyramid, and include 20 sets of Pokémon, with increasing difficulting from one set to the next. The kinds of tactics the wild Pokémon will use progress as:
* Paralysing Moves
* Poisoning Moves
* Burning Moves
* PP Wasting Moves
* Levitate Ability Pokémon
* Non-Escape Ability Pokémon (Shadow Tag and Arena Trap)
* Freezing Moves
* Explosion and Selfdestruct Moves
* Psychic Moves
* Rock Pokémon
* Fighting Pokémon
* Weather-Altering Moves
* Bug Pokémon
* Dark Pokémon
* Water Pokémon
* Ghost Pokémon
* Steel Pokémon
* Dragon-like Pokémon
* Fire, Water, Electric, and Ice Moves
* Normal Pokémon

Trainers who pass 21 consecutive floors (three passes through the pyramid) and 70 floors (ten passes through the pyramid) are challenged by Pyramid King Brandon Defeating him in battle awards the Brave Symbol.

Battle Pike
The Battle Pike, or Battle Tube (バトルチューブ) in the Japanese version, is a long pike in the design of a Seviper. Inside are 21 rooms, each with its own event. To complete the Battle Pike, one must choose from seven sets of three rooms. Depending on the room, one of eight events will happen:
* Single Battle: 3 Pokémon per side.
* Double Battle: 2 Pokémon per side.
* Single Battle and Healing: 3 Pokémon per side; winner's Pokémon are completely healed.
* Wild Pokémon: Wild Milotic, Dusclops, and Seviper appear.
* No Event: Nothing happens.
* Status Change: A surprise attack will inflict a status on one or all of your Pokémon. The status includes Kirlia's Burn, Paralyze, Poison, or Sleep and Dusclops's Burn or Freeze.
* One or Two Recovery: One or two of your Pokémon will be healed.
* Full Recovery: All of your Pokémon will be healed.

The lady standing outside of the rooms will hint at what is in one of the three rooms.

The Frontier Brain of the Battle Pike is Pike Queen Lucy. She challenges trainers who complete 28 rooms (two passes through the pike) and 140 rooms (10 passes).

Battle Tower
In the Battle Tower (Japanese: バトルタワー), trainer after random trainer is battled, progressively becoming more difficult.

After 35 wins (five trips through the tower) and 70 wins (ten trips through the tower), Salon Maiden Anabel appears. Defeat her to win the Ability Symbol.
I haven't been able to check how well the list boxes behave in IE - if they don't work as expected, what will result is a vertical stack of bordered boxes, which admittedly doesn't look very nice. - 振霖T 10:39, 9 May 2005 (UTC)
I just checked what it looks like in IE, they display as a horizontal row of boxes, also Ho-oh is split into 3 lines, screenshot - MTC 10:42, 9 May 2005 (UTC)
Internet Explorer strikes again! Sigh. - Ferret 10:54, 9 May 2005 (UTC)

Actually, a JavaScrip bot should probably be able to replace data such as class="listcol" and replace with some nicer stuff like style="bla". I could probably do that. It's not actually that hard. Coppro 22:32, 9 May 2005 (UTC)

The Ho-oh thing is to do with word-wrapping. (IE thinks a hyphen is a good place to wrap words, other browsers don't.) A Javascript solution is a bit extreme. All we need to do is to write alternate CSS for IE users. - 振霖T 07:49, 10 May 2005 (UTC)

I was thinking a JavaScript that modidfied the contents of each page, as opposed to one directly inside the page. The thing is that JavaScript is good at sneaking this stuff in if run from a frame-based page. I wasn't thinking of integrated scripts. Also, what language is BulbaBot? Eevee is the "Evolution Pokémon". It is called this because it can evolve into one of several kinds of Pokémon by usage of different stones. Eevee can evolve into the Water-type Pokémon Vaporeon with a water stone, the Fire-type Flareon with a fire-stone, and the Electric-type Jolteon with a thunder stone. In Generation II and Generation III, Eevee has two new evolutions. Both of these evolutions are achieved through Happiness. It can evolve into the Psychic-type Pokémon, Espeon, if, after it reaches the required Happiness value, it gains a level during the day. If it reaches this value, and then levels up during the night, it evolves into the Dark-type Pokémon, Umbreon.

Power points, or PP for short, are the energy that a Pokémon requires in order to perform a move.

Each move has a set number of Power points. Under the PP system, a move starts out with PP values of 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, or 40. Up to 3 PP Ups can be applied to each move, and each PP Up increases increases the moves maximum PP by 20% of its original value (except if the move has 1 PP, in which case it has no effect). In Generation I and Generation II, the maximum PP values for moves that have base PP values of 40 is 61; this was increased to 64 in Generation III. Typically, the stronger or more desirable a move is (as compared to other moves), the lower its maximum PP. When used, PP is not deducted from the moves Shadow Rush and Struggle, effectively giving them infinte PP.

Once a move runs out of PP, it can no longer be selected as an attack. After the PP of all of a Pokémon's moves has run out, the Pokémon will have to revert to Struggle. In Generation I, this could be bypassed by allowing the game to automatically use a move to attack, which can happen to any attack if a pokémon attacks immediately after being defrosted, or to a handful of moves (Bind, Clamp, Fire Spin, Hyper Beam, Metronome, Mimic, and Wrap) because of the autoselection involved with partial trapping moves (if a move is used when it has 0 PP, it will afterwards obtain a current PP count of 63, and full PP ups will be applied to it). Starting in Generation II, a check was added to see if a move has 0 PP when executed, as well as selected.

Outside of battle, Hidden Machines may be used even if the current PP of the HM move is 0.

Elixirs and Ethers restore a move's PP, and a visit to any Pokémon Center will replenish PP to its maximum value.

Power points, like many other game mechanics, are absent in the Anime and Manga. The Trading Card Game, however, employs a system similar to the games, which requires a certain number of Energy cards to be attached to a Pokémon before it can perform a move.

Battle tents are red-and-white tents situated in Slateport City, Verdanturf Town, and Fallarbor Town, replacing the Contest Halls in each. The Battle Tents offer a look at most of the battles to be experienced in the Battle Frontier, and are a way to practice for the Frontier. You get a reward for beating 3 battles at a time, which varies depending on which Tent.

Slateport Battle Tent: Battle Factory
In Slateport City, the Battle Tent is themed in the manner of the Battle Factory in Battle Frontier. You pick out 3 random Pokémon from a list of 6 rentals, all at Level 30. Then, you battle 3 Trainers at a time, having a chance after each battle to possibly trade one of your Pokémon for one from the person you just defeated. You are not allowed to look at any information about the Pokémon that you are trading for, having to imply the moves they use from battle.

Verdanturf Battle Tent: Battle Palace
In this Tent, you use a team of Pokémon to fight 3 trainers whose Pokémon will be adjusted to the levels of your team, although they will not go below Level 30. Unlike the other Tent battles, you do not directly control your Pokémon. Rather, they will use the moves most suited to their Nature (i.e.:Hardy, Quiet, Modest).Depending on their Nature, some Pokémon will not attack, preferring to use stat uppers or defensive moves. The Pokémon in the battle may change fighting styles when low on HP.

Fallarbor Battle Tent: Battle Arena
In this Tent, you use a team of 3 of your own Pokémon against 3 Trainers, whose Pokémon's levels have been adjusted to the level of your team, althiugh the enemy's Pokémon will never be below Level 30.

Each separate Pokémon face-off is timed for 3 turns. If in 3 turns, neither Pokémon has been KO'ed, then the judge makes a decision depending on 3 factors: Mind(amount of offensive moves), Skill(accuracy of moves), and Body(remaining HP).

Possible scores for each category are Circle (win) (2 points), Triangle (tie) (1 point), and X (lose) (0 points.) The Pokémon with the most points will win.

The Skill category is not affected if a move misses as a result of a damage blocking attack such as Detect/Protect.

In the Pokémon TCG, there are three types of cards players can use to build their decks with; "Pokémon", "Trainers" and "Energy".
*Pokémon cards are the creatues you use to do battle with. Each Pokémon card has some combination of attacks and "Pokémon Power", these are used to either disrupt your opponent or give you the winning edge.
*Trainer cards generally have a one time effect and are then discarded.
*Energy cards is the "fuel" necessary for your Pokémon to attack. If your Pokémon has no Energy cards attached to it, it cannot attack!

Each of these cards themselves have their own subtypes as well.
* Pokémon cards include both "Basic" and "Evolution" Pokémon.

Each move has a set number of Power points. Under the PP system, moves can be performed anywhere from 5 to 64 times; higher damage-dealing moves typically have low PP counts, and the reverse is also true. The PP system limits the value of especially powerful moves such as Fire Blast. There are three exceptions: the move Sketch has only one PP and the moves Shadow Rush and Struggle both have infinite PP.

Once a move runs out of PP, it can no longer be performed. After the PP of all of a Pokémon's moves has run out, the Pokémon will have to revert to Struggle (which hurts the user when it hits).

Outside of battle, Hidden Machines may be used even if the Power points of the HM move have been used up.

Elixirs and Ethers temporarily restore a move's PP, and a visit to any Pokémon Center will replentish PP to its maximum. PP Up permanently raises the PP of one move by one fifth of its original value. Each move, however, has a cap on the max number of Power Points it can have equal to the original value times 1.6 (three PP Ups). PP Max permanently raises the PP of a move to its maximum value.
